AMAZON is here & our first raffle!

Hello everyone! We are excited to announce that we have become Amazon affiliates. That means that anytime you want to make a purchase on Amazon, STOP....come on over to our blog (check out a few cute pictures while here) and then CLICK on one of the two Amazon links! Easy!! We then get a small percentage of the sale. How much? We actually don't even know but every little bit helps so we'll take it!!! It doesn't cost you or us anything and Amazon is a great place to shop!

Speaking of great places to shop.....CafePress! For a Christmas gift I received a beautiful sweatshirt that was quite big on me. So I called CafePress and told them it was the usual medium that I wore but it was really very big. They easily sent me a new size small and said that they didn't want me to worry about shipping it back so I could keep it. That was very nice of them and apparently this is what they always do (therefore you can always be very comfortable shopping with them). I told them I was very excited because I could use the size medium (really like a large at 22" measured across laying flat) to raffle off for our adoption (the customer service rep was equally excited). So here is it:

It is a gray hooded sweatshirt with all different Bible verses in the shape of China! Sooooo, from today on the NEXT TEN PEOPLE who donate will receive one chance for every $10 they donate. So here is the math: If ten people donate ten dollars each person has a 1 in 10 chance of winning this sweatshirt. If one of those people donate $50 and the other 9 donated $10 each. The $50 donator will have a 5 in 15 chance of winning while the others have a 1 in 15 chance of winning! FUN!!! Now I know you can all buy this on CafePress for $40 but then you wouldn't have the great feeling of knowing that YOU helped one of those 147 Million Orphans!!! Please shoot an email to kimmpell@gmail.com to tell me how much you donated so I can enter you in the drawing (not all of the fundraising links tell us all of the information we would need to enter you). THANKS FOR ENTERING and GOOD LUCK!
Have a blessed day!!!!

PS....I was just thinking how much we like CafePress so we might as well see if they have affiliate services and YES THEY DO! Make your CafePress purchases through this blog! Thank you!

Reece's Rainbow donations....

Hi and thank you!!! Please know that this organization will not provide a list of donators names unless we ask for them. We certainly will ask for this list here and there but please know that they WILL NOT provide personal information so we would not be able to send you a personal thank you (or silicone bracelet) because we won't have anyway of getting it to you (unless of course we already know you :). If you would like to share your information with us please do so to our email at kimmpell@gmail.com.....we would love to know who you are!

Thank you to our first donation on Reece's Rainbow from a very sweet person who I "met" through the Reece's Rainbow FB page.....she couldn't stand to see the zero dollars available for this little boy so she contributed! Then another contribution or two (I just don't have a way of knowing right now). THANK YOU!!! Please share, it all means sooooo much!!!!

Thanks again for checking in!!!

Chinese New Year

Before I post anything today, I want to thank everyone out there for the many prayers. Please keep them coming!!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!
(Sunday February 10th)

Here Anthony is with his Year of the Snake ornament
(we plan on giving him one each year until he has the entire collection of 12)

We started the day off with a beautiful introduction at Mass on Sunday when Father Neville pointed out  our ever so cute Anthony in his dragon outfit wishing everyone a Happy Chinese New Year! Anthony loved it as much as we did! After mass we headed over to the coffee & donuts. We sat with some friends who I went through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program with. Their hearts are very close to adoption as they are the proud parents of an awesome boy adopted from Romania (they are also the proud parents of two biological boys as well). They offered their help with fundraisers  (& their middle school boy was even excited to help) & really took much of the fear of fundraising away. We then were heading to meet the FCC (Families with Children from China) for a New Years celebratory buffet at the China Manor in Hampstead (the owner is so amazing). On our way there our friends from church called and offered us a very very nice donation to our adoption (more tears). Truly a blessing! We look forward to meeting again with them to create some events.
We had a very nice lunch with a very large group of amazing people (just look at that picture above of all of the adopted children from China with their siblings, it is just sooooo beautiful). We met some more great people. One particularly in mind that has adopted SEVEN kids from China. As she was getting them & wheelchairs in this large van, she still took the time out to share some ideas with me. There are some truly incredible people out there and she is definitely one of them (boy I hope I don't have to shave my head to raise money at the last minute like she did, but I will if I have to)! Days like these really make you go WOW & allow you to breathe again! Ahhhhh.....

Please share this blog with everyone and anyone. The more people who see it the more prayers & chances of funding to help us bring this second little boy home to his new FOREVER FAMILY! We have had over 1300 hits on this site & if everyone of them took a moment to even donate a dollar or two, this little guy would be that much closer to us. When you say you have nothing now, realize that every little bit counts no matter how small it might seem to you. We are thankful for every prayer, ever donation and every kind word!

Thanks for checking in!!!

Ps.....a special thank you shout out to the adorable little twins in Anthony's Come Learn with Me Class for the gift to Anthony of two oranges for the Chinese New Year! Very touching!

As promised, the cost breakdown....

Ugghhhh, this is the part EVERYONE hates!!! So many people do not adopt because of this! It is so sad that it comes down to money but everything we have read and learned from adoption is that you should not make it about the money (although kinda hard with those costs). So here is the breakdown. Look if only if you have a strong heart!!!

Catholic Charities as our Home Study Agency
New Home study, facilitation, and 3 post-placement visits for Maryland is $4,750. Plus $350 for each of the additional four post-placement visits required by China. Total of $6,150 for the new home study (plus fingerprinting & background checks). No Application fee with second adoption (regularly $300) No Hague training because we already did it (regularly $250)

Holt International as our Adoption Agency:

Application Fee $300 This fee covers the cost to review the application & determine the best direction to take with the adoption process.

U.S. Processing Fee (WAS $3,000 & Holt just discounted it to $1,500) The processing fee covers Holt's cost to facilitate the adoption with agency & government officials in the US & China. Processing expenses for Holt include – but are not limited to – personnel costs, administrative overhead, operational costs, staff training & education, communications & publications costs. This fee also covers registration & translation costs related to submitting your dossier.

Document Processing Fee: DISCOUNTED FROM $600 to $150 BECAUSE NOT AS MUCH PREPARATION IS REQUIRED BY REUSING OUR PREVIOUS DOSSIER: Holt staff will assist in obtaining vital records needed for the dossier & have the documents certified as required by county, state, federal & foreign governments. They will also make necessary photocopies & mount photographs required for your dossier. This does not cover fees charged by gov’t offices to certify the documents nor the cost to mail documents via Federal Express or priority mail.

Adoption Program Fee: CHINA IS $9,360 (includes special focus child discount of $2,000) The adoption program fee helps cover the cost to facilitate the adoption in CHINA. This includes, but is not limited to, costs for personnel, administrative overhead, training, education, legal services & communications, working with gov’t & agency authorities, legal fees, & passport & visa fees. It also covers costs related to the care of our child prior to adoption, including – but not limited to – costs for food, clothing, shelter, medical care, foster care, orphanage care, & any other services provided directly to our child. It also includes any mandatory donations required by child welfare authorities. This fee may also cover child welfare projects in China.

USCIS application $805-$1,250
(COST US ABOUT $1,100 LAST TIME & MUST BE DONE AGAIN) All U.S. families must receive approval from U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) before bringing a child to the U.S. for adoption. USCIS requires families pay an application fee, fingerprinting fee &, in some cases, a renewal or change fee.
Adoption Education Classes $150-$500 (WE DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS AGAIN). You will be required to complete a number of general adoption trainings using approved online courses..
Dossier Preparation $100-$700
(THIS WILL BE SLIGHTLY REDUCED AS SOME ITEMS CAN BE REUSED, APPROXIMATING $500). The home study & dossier process requires families to obtain official copies of documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates & divorce decrees. Some countries require that these & other documents go through a process of notarization, certification & authentication before being submitted.
Travel expenses $3,000-$15,000(FOR OUR LAST TRIP, TRAVEL & HOTEL COST US APPROX. $9,900 PLUS EXPENSES IN CHINA, WILL ESTIMATE IT AT $13,000 THIS TIME BUT HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING JUST YET)  Travel expenses vary greatly depending on the number of trips required, the number of people in our travel party, & the time of year that we travel. These expenses include airfare, lodging, meals & ground transportation, and visa’s.
Adoption Finalization $500-$1,500(ALTHOUGH OUR CHILD’S ADOPTION WILL BE FINALIZED IN CHINA – BECAUSE BOTH PARENTS TRAVELED – WE STILL MUST FINALIZE IT THE US AFTER BEING HOME FOR 6 MONTHS, WE ARE NOT SURE OF THE EXACT COST BUT WILL ESTIMATE IT IN THE MIDDLE AT $1,000).

Total for Holt International: $26,910
Total for Home Study: $6,150

Total cost for adoption: $33,060 *
Cost to give a child a home: PRICELESS!!!!

* some costs listed above are still estimates

Thanks for checking in again! Please continue to pray for the orphans around the world and for all of those trying to bring them home!!!

Tax Deductible Donations are HERE!!!!

A BIG thank you to Reece's Rainbow for accepting our application so on our son's behalf they can collect TAX DEDUCTIBLE donations! This is a win-win situation and we blessed again!! Here is the information from Reece's Rainbow on the fees:

Paypal fees are very costly to RR, and historically we have always covered those, so we appreciate you asking your friends and family to give with a check when they can.  Larger donations (made via Paypal) over $500 will incur a 3% reduction in the donation to cover those Paypal fees.   Donations made via check are given at 100%.  Checks should be made payable to Reece’s Rainbow and mailed to PO Box 4024  Gaithersburg, MD  20885.

Other news: We are at that little bit of a stand still as we wait for our home study to be completed. Waiting in the world of adoption is not unfamiliar. Things are definitely happening, just I guess behind the scenes!

That's all the news here. How about a shot of Anthony on his way to church:

Here are some amazing comments from people we know through sharing our site on Facebook and others we never met who donated:

Truly inspirational story from two people that I have always admired. Please take a look ♥

I'm new to this Facebook thing. I'm not sure who it can reach out to and who it can't. Our loving neighbors are trying to adopt their second child. I don't know any two people that would want to give there love and caring to adopt a child as much as they do. They are reaching out to friends, neighbors, family, businesses and strangers. I would like everyone to join me in prayin to send blessings , to share your thoughts, and to pass on the Faith Hope Love Adoption web site. Please read it and do what your heart and mind want you to do. God bless each and everyone of us.

Best wishes for a speedy adoption.

I wish the Pellegrino family the best of luck with the adoption process and that you all are able to bring little Timothy home as planned. May you all be blessed threefold this year and years to come!

(a word from Kim: his name is "Timothy" on the photo listing from the agency....we don't have a name yet)

I wish you and your family the best, and hope that you can bring your son home soon.

Kim, your story has touched me deeply. Thank you for your kindness and consideration towards adoption. I’m happy to hear that Anthony is doing well and that your heart has pulled you closer to adopting another child.

Thanks for checking in everyone, have a GREAT day!!!

Our silicone bracelets just came in and they are AWESOME. If you donated already (& shared your address) we will mail them out to you next week and THANK YOU!!!!! Wear them with pride knowing you helped bring an orphan home. If you would like one, please send along a donation - anything you can offer and you too can wear one of these very cool bracelets :).

What new news do we have? We got a surprise update that spoke about our little boys present home. He was born in July of 2011 and after found at about a month old he was abandoned, found and placed in an orphanage. This orphanage does have some good programs for struggling kids but our little guy (who still needs a name) needed more. Just before he turned one he was placed in a foster home because he needed more attention and better care. He has shown great improvements since then. His foster family was just told that he has a "forever family" and they are very excited. We are putting together a photo book for him to see us and our home. We did this for Anthony as well (along with stickers and a CD Eric made on the keyboards playing different Classic Rock tunes in a kid version) but we don't think he ever got them. His orphanage was not a good one at all that includes not feeding girls and cutting nails so short they get infected (we weren't the only one's who had this problem but we ended up having to bring Anthony to the hospital in China, but that's a whole other story). Having a child come from a foster home instead of an orphanage will be a different experience. I personally think everything this time will be different as I keep saying: "if the first child is really good (like Anthony), the second is going to make up for it." So excited, absolutely, but a little nervous at times too. Keeping the faith is certainly helping us get through.

And my big WOW for the day......imagine going into a store and as you greet the owner at the register she say that she is glad you came in. Wondering why you smile and she hands you a gift card that someone else bought just for you and your situation! That happened to me today. Last week Anthony & I stopped into a kids consignment store in Finksburg, MD (Worn With Luv) after we dropped off the papers for the required physicals.  There we met two wonderful ladies, one the owner and the other a customer. We spoke for a bit about adoption and the owner told me not to buy anything today but to wait until Saturday when they were having an 80% & 60% off sale. She literally told me to put down the item I had in my hand and come back. We talked some more and I left. I never did get the names of the women but I did share this blog. Sure enough I started getting some donations from that area. I don't even know these incredibly kind people and they helped us through donations. Then I went to the store today and the owner handed me the gift card and told me it was from the woman in the store I met.....I have tears in my eyes again! She gave me the name and sure enough, it was the same woman who gave us our very first donation!!!! More tears! And she has shared our story with other people who have donated! I am truly amazed at this woman and I send prayers to her and her family with their new baby girl! Thank you and your friends!!! I hope that our children can play together some day!

Ok, one more WOW on a different note. Eric teaches 4th & 5th grade and he is in a great school in a great and diverse community. One of the parents of his students invited Anthony to he son's birthday party at a gym (he also turned 4). She is Chinese and thought it would be nice for Anthony to be around some Chinese people (keeping the Chinese culture in his life is very important, unlike years ago where you would raise them only American). We were so excited and Anthony had a great time. Although he really didn't "get it" he had a blast running around. He didn't shy away as much from people speaking Chinese as he has in the past (as you can imagine, it could scare him). He had so much fun. It was so incredibly nice of this mom to invite us. We look forward to having a play date with her little one. What a great opportunity it was for Anthony!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the WOW's :) ...will update you with more information as it comes In the mean time share!!!!! Thank you and God Bless!!!!
